User Guide
TISS Universal heat-insulation coating
User Guide contains information associated with surface pre-treatment for insulation and application of TISS Universal heat-insulation coating, recommended equipment, rules of transport, storage and disposal, safety precautions and Manufacturer warranty. To achieve the best possible results, make sure that provisions of this Guide are strongly adhered to. Coating properties shall be degraded in case of failure to observe instructions contained herein. Failure to observe instructions of this Guide makes Manufacturer warranty obligations null and void.
Surface pre-treatment
Metal surface pre-treatment
Surface for insulation shall be cleaned to remove dirt, rust, dust and previous paint coating; loose coating flakes shall be removed. Where necessary, polish the surface by emery cloth. The surface must be dry and de-greased. In case of strong corrosion, clean the surface by corrosion remover. Fixtures (bolts, nuts) must be tightened, or replaced, where applicable.
For better adhesion and extension of coating service life, metal surfaces are subject to prior priming. According to test results, crucial difference between different primer types is not identified. All primers based on zinc organic and non-organic compounds demonstrate good corrosion resistant properties on steel surfaces. Epoxy-based primers demonstrate similar properties. Apply primer by sprayer or brush on entire area for insulation. Make sure to observe instructions for surface pre-treatment for priming! It is necessary to certify that all areas of metal surface, weld areas including, are carefully primed. Avoid application of material until primer coating is completely dried! In case of long idling period after surface priming, before application of heat-insulation material, the user must be sure that the surface is free of foreign impurities. Recommended temperature of metal surface for insulation is +5 to +40°C.
Pre-treatment of concrete and brickwork surfaces
TISS Universal heat-insulation coating shall be applied on dry, dust-free surface, without symptoms of fungi stains. Where applicable, remove loose areas, expand cracks and repair the surface by cement-plaster mortar and remove dust. To flatten substantial surface defects (deep cracks, chips) we recommend using relevant fillers. TISS Universal coating shall be applied on new concrete and brickwork surfaces at least in 3 days after natural drying out. When heat-insulation coating is applied on previously painted surfaces, make sure to remove previous paint coat in flaking areas; use emery cloth and remove dust, where applicable.
Pre-treatment of other surface types
TISS Universal heat-insulation coating may be applied on wooden, plastic surface and other building materials. The surface for insulation must be dry, dust-free and de-greased. When heat-insulation coating is applied on previously painted surfaces, make sure to remove previous paint coat in flaking areas; use emery cloth and remove dust, where applicable.
Application of coating
It is recommended to apply TISS Universal heat-insulation coating at temperature of insulated surface +5 to +40°C. Metal surfaces are subject to prior priming! Ambient temperature shall be above +5°C! It is not recommended to apply heat-insulation coating on the surface in case of strong wind, rain, fog and drizzle. Residual moisture content of concrete and brickwork surfaces shall be 8% or less!
Before application, agitate coating compound to achieve uniform product. When using drill for agitation, mixer rotation speed shall not exceed 300 rpm! Mixing time for a drill is 5-7 minutes; manual mixing time is 7-9 minutes. By consistency, coating shall be similar to cream or yogurt. Where necessary, add 100-500 ml of water per 10 liters of coating compound and mix once more.
It is recommended to apply coating by brush made of artificial fiber used for application of interior or facade paints. Immediately before coating application, wet the brush in water! To obtain high-quality coating, brush movements must be directed in one side! Where area of surface for insulation is large, it is recommended to use paint spray gun GRACO Mark V or similar. Coating is applied in layer-by-layer fashion. One layer thickness shall not exceed 0.5 mm! When applied, rinse tools in water. Where coating generates clots, or coating buildups, spread it by brush, or wait until completed dried out and remove afterwards. Should material is applied on other areas, wash it out by water, use scraper or putty knife to remove. One layer of 0.5 mm thickness completely dries out at ambient temperature above 20°C and relative humidity 65% maximum in 24 hours.
One layer of 0.5 mm thickness completely dries out at ambient temperature below 20°C and relative humidity 65% or higher in at least 48 hours. Average material consumption is approximately 0.5 liters per 1 sq.m. at layer thickness 0.5 mm.
Coating application on hot surfaces
Pre-treat the surface for insulation similar as stated above. Make sure to prime metal surfaces before application!
When coating is applied on surface with temperature above 90°C, it boils and sticks to the surface at a higher rate. Therefore, before application, coating shall be diluted by water ratio 500 ml/1 liter of coating. Mix uniformly. When using drill for agitation, mixer rotation speed shall not exceed 300 rpm! Mixing time for a drill is 5-7 minutes; manual mixing time is 7-9 minutes. By consistency, coating shall be similar to thin cream.
When the temperature of insulated surface is above 90°C, thickness of the first layer shall not exceed 0.25 mm! Apply coating by fast and short motions. It facilitates application of thin layer. Thin layers are applied on insulated surface until coating material stops boiling! When completed, coating may be applied without dilution in water. Maximum thickness of subsequent layers shall be 0.5 mm! Upon application, rinse tools by water. Where coating generates clots, or coating buildups, spread it by brush, or wait until completed dried out and remove afterwards. Should material is applied on other areas, wash it out by water, use scraper or putty knife to remove. One thin layer of 0.25 mm thickness completely dries out in 8 hours minimum. Each subsequent layer of 0.5 mm thickness completely dries out in 24 hours. Average material consumption is approximately 0.5 liters per 1 sq.m. at layer thickness 0.5 mm.
Coating application by sprayer gun
Pre-treat the surface for insulation, mix coating compound and get ready sprayer gun for operation in accordance with instructions manual. It is recommended to use sprayer gun Graco Mark V or similar. Use hoses 3/8” and reverse-action nozzles 0.021” - 0.031” for compound supply! It is recommended to use paint gun Graco Contractor Gun with flexible hose 3/8”. Before operation, extract filters from suction tube and the gun. Pressure shall be adjusted within 5-7 atm. Compound supply valve must be completely opened. Before operation, check sprayer gun operability without paint gun.
Surface areas without coating requirements shall be glued by paint scotch tape. Pressure and flow rate must be permanent. Should compound consumption is decreased in operation, make provisions to increase supply pressure. During application of coating, keep paint gun perpendicular to insulated surface at 15-25 cm spacing from the surface. Coating is applied with certain overlapping of layers. Otherwise, thickness of coating will be variable. When completed, rinse paint gun in water (see instructions for the sprayer gun) and smear, where applicable. Normally, one pass of sprayer gun conforms to coating thickness 0.1 mm on flat surface. Layer thickness before drying shall not exceed 0.5 mm! Instructions for application of coating on different surface types are given above. Where coating generates clots, or coating buildups, spread it by brush, or wait until completed dried out and remove afterwards. Should material is applied on other areas, wash it out by water, use scraper or putty knife to remove. Average material consumption is approximately 0.5 liters per 1 sq.m. at layer thickness 0.5 mm.
For large volumes of coating, mixer of 75-110 liters volume may be used. This technique is efficient, when coating is applied by several sprayer guns and coating consumption exceeds time of compound mixing in original containers. TISS Universal coating compound is poured from original containers to the mixing bowl and is mixed at low rotation speed.
Safety precautions
TISS Universal heat-insulation coating is environment friendly, it has no harmful volatile organic compounds and is explosion- and fire resistant. Apply coating in premises with good natural ventilation, or in premises with plenum & exhaust ventilation system. When using sprayer gun, make sure to use respirator, safety goggles and gloves. In case of skin contact, wash it immediately by soapy water. In case of eye contact, wash eyes with copious water. Ask for medical advice, where applicable.
